Mega Man Xtreme 2 takes place during the XXII century, in an unknown year 21XX, between the events of Mega Man X3 and Mega Man X4. The DNA Souls of the Reploids around the world have begun to be stolen by a group of villains in order to create an army of "Mavericks Zombies". The "Maverick Hunters" X and Zero, quickly undertake their fight against the new shift bosses; Berkana, if the player chose X, and Gareth, if the player chose Zero, in the mysterious Laguz Island, now with the help of a young Iris.
