This time, Roger will travel through time through different parts of the Space Quest series itself. So, first resurrected in Space Quest XII Sludge Vohaul moves Roger into the future in order to finally settle accounts with him. The hero manages to escape with incredible efforts, while capturing the latest time machine Timebuster 2000 SUX worth 38415 buckazoids (buckazoid is the monetary unit of the game world of the Space Quest series). Roger will also visit Space Quest X: Latex Babes of Estrotos (the title parodies Infocom's game Leather Goddesses of Phobos) and Space Quest I, where the graphics and music return to the original 1986 edition, and Roger himself appears in all 256-color beauty (which will serve as an occasion for ridicule from a gang of monochrome bikers).

Like Space Quest III, Space Quest IV contains a mini-game: Ms. Astro Chicken, where the player must control a chicken that lays deadly eggs on hunters and their dogs.
