In Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, as in many other computer role-playing games, the player controls a squad of several people. The way you control a squad and the type of game can vary depending on where the player is located: on the world map, where the player moves between different locations, in a specific location (city, dungeon, etc.), or in a separate "battlefield" where the battle of the squad with the enemy takes place.

Final fantasy IV

In Final Fantasy IV, the so-called “Active Time Battle” developed by Hiroyuki Ito appeared. Its essence lies in the fact that the player enters the team for his squad in "real time" during the battle (as opposed to a step-by-step battle). Each character is balanced, with its strengths and weaknesses; for example, a strong magician may have low protection, and a powerful warrior can be slow.

Chrono trigger

Gameplay Chrono Trigger differs from traditional RPGs in that most of the monsters are visible in the locations, and the battles do not start randomly, and the player himself can attack them, or the enemy will wait in ambush and pounce on the squad as it approaches. The battle will begin if the squad comes close to the monster; at the same time, the battle will take place not in a separate location, but in the same place. Chrono Trigger also uses an improved version of the active battle mode, borrowed from Final Fantasy IV. Characters can perform special unique attacks, called "technology", and the damage done and the accuracy of their hit depends on the location of opponents. Other distinctive features of the game include time travel and the ability to start a New Game +, which means that the characters in the beginning will have the same abilities as when the game ends.
